1 Kings begins with the establishment of Solomon’s reign, marked by wisdom, prosperity, and the building of the temple where the Lord’s name dwells among His people. Yet Solomon’s later compromise turns his heart away, and the kingdom fractures under divided loyalty. After his death, Israel splits into northern and southern kingdoms, and a pattern of idolatry and unstable leadership takes root. Though prophets rise to confront kings and call the nation back to covenant faithfulness, decline deepens across generations. First Kings reveals that outward strength cannot preserve a kingdom when hearts turn from the Lord who established it.
