Jeremiah speaks during the final years of Judah before the fall of Jerusalem, calling the people to return to the Lord as judgment draws near. Though the nation persists in idolatry and false trust, God continues to send warnings through His prophet, revealing both His sorrow over their rebellion and His justice in coming discipline. Jerusalem is destroyed and the people are carried into exile, fulfilling the covenant warnings spoken long before. Yet even in the midst of judgment, the Lord promises restoration and speaks of a new covenant written on the heart. Jeremiah shows that God’s faithfulness remains unbroken, even when His people must pass through correction.
