Malachi confronts God’s people for their spiritual complacency after the return from exile, exposing empty worship, corrupt leadership, and a lack of reverence for the Lord. Through a series of direct exchanges, God reveals that outward religion without honor and faithfulness is unacceptable before Him. Yet even in rebuke, the Lord reaffirms His covenant love and calls His people to return. The book looks ahead to a coming messenger who will prepare the way and a day when the Lord will act in both judgment and purification. Malachi closes the Old Testament by reminding God’s people that He remains faithful, and that His purposes are moving forward toward a promised fulfillment.
